The Edo State government has said that it will extend fibre optic cables to the 18 local government of the State as party of effort to expand the state’s digital space.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, said Chris Nehikhare, said this would be achieved in collaboration with telecom companies.
“We are not building our own fibre optic cables, what we are doing is that some of the telecom companies have come to Edo State and they want to do this fibre optic cables but they are only stopping in Benin City,” he said.
According to him, government is insisting that every local government headquarters across Edo is connected, adding that the state is not paying its own contractors but would link the telecom services fibre optic cable with their own.
“We are not leaving any part of Edo State out, we want Edo State to be one and everyone will be connected in the state.”
Speaking on the invasion of the state’s secretariat by some group of persons from Irhirhi community where the state government demolished some houses, he said land grabbers were fighting back.
“Government only retrieved its own properties and want to create a new town from that area. Government is resolute, we know the land grabbers are fighting back”
He said Government directives must be obeyed and the government is going to carry on as long as it is beneficial to the people.
