The Special Adviser to Gombe State governor on Information and strategies, Alhaji Ahmad Shu’aibu Gara-Gombe, has called for urgent steps to be taken to revive school sports in the state.
The former Chairman of Gombe State Football Association made the appeal during the inauguration of the various sports associations at the VIP lounge of the Pantami stadium in Gombe.
He urged the Gombe State Sports Commission to liaise with the state ministry of Education to unearth sports talents in schools.
Gara-Gombe also called on stakeholders to partner with the commission in order to encourage sporting activities in the state.
While inaugurating the chairmen of the association, the Chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Dr Lanry Daniel Terry, said the chairmen were appointed based on their track records in sports.
He said their appointments signal the quest to revive sporting activities in the state.
He explained that the commission was leaving no stone unturned in reviving school sports which used to be a breeding ground for future athletes.
Terry also commended Governor Yahaya on his relentless support especially now that the state is finalising preparations for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Delta State.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman of the Handball Association, Abbas Muhammad, assured the commissions that they would justify the confidence reposed in them.
