‘You will be missed’, National Institute Alumni mourns General crushed to death

The National President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) and former Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of Brigadier-General Audu Ogbole James, Director of Finance at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos.

Daily Trust had reported how the General lost his life after a corporal identified as Abayomi Edun crushed him at the barracks on Tuesday night.

The deceased was reportedly walking to his residence when the corporal driving an SUV with number plate EKY 177 FX, hit him.

Edun was said to be under alcoholic influence at the time of the accident.

In a statement, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (rtd), AANI National Publicity Secretary, said the president, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and the entire membership of the association, commiserated with the family of their late member.

‘’There is no doubt this unfortunate incident has robbed AANI, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the entire nation of the services of one of its finest, most professional, patriotic, dedicated, humble, and quintessential senior officers and a gentleman of the nation’s Armed Forces.

“Until his death, he was the Director of Finance and Accounts at the NAFRC in Oshodi, Lagos. He is survived by an aging mother, a wife, and three children. Details of his burial will be announced later by the Nigerian Army in conjunction with the family.

“AANI members are kindly requested to show unwavering love and support by rallying around and being with his family at this time of sorrow, in prayers and visitation, and turning out en masse for the burial. May his gentle soul rest in peace, amen. May God also give the family, AANI, and the nation the courage and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, amen,” the statement read in part.

According to the deceased’s profile on NARFC website, the late General had first and second degrees in Accounting and Finance.

He was a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and held memberships of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Nigerian Institute of Directors (MIoD), Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACTI), and the National Institute (mni).
