The Gombe State Police Command said it has tightened security around critical assets and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mu’azu Mahid Abubakar.

Abubakar said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Oqua Etim, ordered the deployment of police operatives around the INEC facilities to checkmate crimes and other nefarious activities in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
He said the police commissioner has warned politicians against the use of youths for thuggery and use of non-state actors carrying cutlasses, sticks, daggers or knives during political campaigns or rallies.
He added that the violators alongside sponsors would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the 2022 Electoral Act.
