NSCDC arrests man, 25, for allegedly raping minors in C/River

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River has arrested one Micheal Okon, 25, for allegedly defiling two minors in Calabar Municipality.

Mr Solomon Eremi, Public Relations Officer of NSCDC in the state, disclosed this on Friday in Calabar on behalf of the state Commandant, Mr Samuel Fadeyi.

Eremi, who said that the incident happened on Nov. 2, added that the suspect had canal knowledge of the minors, aged 12 and 10.

“On Nov. 2 2022, one Michael Okon, age 25, had a canal knowledge of two young girls, ages 12 and 10. He defiled both of them,” he said.

Okon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview that “it was the devils handwork”, thereby pleading with the NSCDC for forgiveness.

“I am guilty of the crime, it’s the devil’s work; I won’t repeat this again.

“The two girls came to my compound during school hours with their school bags, they entered my room, and I slept with them,” he said.

The PRO also paraded one Bernard Edor-Obi for allegedly vandalising high tension cables belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in Boki local government area of the state on Nov. 1.

He said that NSCDC was saddled with the responsibility of protecting critical national asset and infrastructure in the country.

He said that the suspect was arrested by men of NSCDC in collaboration with youths from his community, Irruan, in Boki local government area.

The PRO further said that the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, has given them a marching order to ensure they protect all installations and infrastructure in their area of responsibility.

Also speaking with NAN, the alleged cable vandal said he was not “directly” involved in the theft, saying he was framed up by those who hated him in the community (NAN).
