The Edo State Government has ordered the closure of the state-owned Kara Abattoir at Eyaen in Uhunmwode LGA over poor sanitary conditions.
Announcing the closure of the abattoir during a visit, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Stephen Idehenre, described the state of the abattoir as an eyesore, adding that meat from it was unhealthy.

He warned that anyone who flouted the order would be arrested and prosecuted.
He explained that, “The ministry wrote severally to the management of the abattoir but they disregarded the warnings,” adding that, “We must stop this emerging epidemic; it is clear that the meat from this place is unwholesome and unfit for human consumption.”
