The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has asked the electorate to place competence above religion and ethnicity in the choice of their next president in 2023.
Obi spoke at the weekend, when he and his running mate, Yusuf Datti, paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, in his palace during his campaign tour of Edo State.

Obi said he was in the palace to seek royal blessings as he embarked on his campaign ahead of the 2023 elections.
He said, “2023 election should not be based on religion and ethnic sentiments but on competency and on who can deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians.”
He said his government would leverage the country’s population and vast lands to boost the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and make life better for Nigerians.
On his part, Oba Ewuare II, said the throne is only interested in anyone who has the interests of Nigerians at heart, as it remains apolitical ahead of the poll.
