Akwa Ibom community showcases cultural heritage in Abuja

The Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja has organised the 2nd edition of its International Cultural Fiesta 2022 to showcase the state’s cultural heritage and diversity.

The programme was a mix of laughter and entertainment as no fewer than seven masquerades put up scintillating cultural performances to the admiration of guests and participants at the occasion.

Speaking at the event,  Barr. Aniefiok Ibah, President of Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, said the theme of this year’s fiesta, ‘Our culture, our pride’ was apt as it came at a time when the state, community and nation are being ravaged by the effects of globalization.

“This event is intentional and one of our very strategic initiatives as a community to collectively re-enforce all the fabrics of our cultural heritage that binds us together. As a community, we owe our state and our culture a duty to celebrate and preserve it from extinction,” he said.

The Member of the House of Representatives for Nsit-Ubium Nsit-Ibom/Etinan Federal Constituency, Onofiok Luke, who chaired the occasion said, “We need to use our culture to showcase who we are. If you don’t tell your story, people are going to tell stories and nobody can tell your story better than you do.”
