Ogun CP orders clampdown on one-way drivers

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun State, Lanre Bankole, on Wednesday, ordered a clampdown on motorists and motorcyclists who are in the habit of driving against traffic across the state.

Bankole noted that the one-way drivers usually drove against traffic “whenever there is little traffic jam on any of our highways, most especially on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.”

The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the CP viewed the act as “indiscipline and barbaric attitude” which had led to “many avoidable road accidents and the resultant loss of lives.

“In view of this, CP Lanre Bankole has directed area commanders, DPOs and traffic officers across the state to go all out for those recalcitrant drivers who are in the habit of driving against traffic, otherwise known as one-way drivers, with the view to arrest and deal with them in the most decisive manner.

“Henceforth, anybody caught driving against traffic will have his/her vehicle impounded and such driver will be prosecuted.”
