Lugbe Federal Housing Estate needs urgent attention

Sometime in 2011, the six area council chairmen of the FCT called for a special allocation to the territory because of its capital status due to the massive influx of people from other parts of the country, which culminated in the establishment of the Satellite Towns Development Agency (STDA).

The agency is saddled with the responsibility of developing the satellite towns through the provision of basic infrastructure such as good roads and potable water.

However, the current situation of roads in the Lugbe Federal Housing Authority Estate, Abuja, is as if such an agency doesn’t exist.

Almost all the link roads in the area are in deplorable condition. Some are not even passable, and the ones that are manageable are being plied with a lot of caution, stress and time wasting. The result is long queues both in the morning, when workers are trooping out for work, and in the evening when closing from work.

For example, a five-minute drive from an area called Total to the fruit market may take almost 30 minutes, while a five-minute drive from the area called Sector F may take almost another 30 minutes or up to an hour. Potholes abound everywhere, causing a lot of damage to vehicles, and sometimes accidents.

I wish to call on the authority of the Federal Capital Territory through the STDA to look into the road network at Lugbe FHA so that we, the inhabitants, can feel that we have a government that is concerned and to have a feeling that we are in the Federal Capital Territory and not in our villages.

It is shameful that such lack of maintenance culture and care is manifesting in the Federal Capital Territory, which is supposed to be a model to other states.
