Kano gov’ship candidates highlight areas of priority

Six out of eight invited governorship candidates in Kano State have met to highlight areas of priority in their manifestos if elected into office come 2023 general elections.

The event that brought the candidates together was organised by the  Open Government Partnership (OGP), Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) and the Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL).

The candidates were engaged on a policy dialogue and agenda setting.

Salihu Tanko Yakasai of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Ibrahim Khalil of Action Democratic Congress (ADC) are of the view that the economy and revenue generation are key factors for consideration before any other sector, being the bedrocks of development while security be considered to a larger extent.

For Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), while identifying with the developmental aspect of the economy, he believes that the health sector is totally in a state of dilapidation.

On his part, Bashir I. Bashir of Labour Party (LP) who faults past governments of not prioritising key issues, lamented that Kano as a commercial centre could not boost of a N100 million functional and operating industry in the state.

Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and deputy governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Rabi’u Bako, lamented the plight of health practitioners in the state, saying that doctors are the movers of the health sector while the government is just a policy maker.
