Army concerned over Rivers inability to fill recruitment quota

The Nigerian Army has raised concern over the inability of Rivers State to fill its quota in the ongoing Nigerian Army 84 regular recruit intake exercise.

Director, Manpower Planning at the Army Headquarter, Major General Ibrahim Jallo, stated this when he led a delegation of the Nigerian Army to the Secretary to Rivers State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, in Port Harcourt yesterday.

Jallo said the visit to the state government was sequel to the instructions of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya’s, concern that Rivers State was unable to fill its recruitment quota into the Nigerian Army, adding that if not addressed, the state would be short-changed in their entitlement for even representation in Nigerian Army.

He said it was the constitutional right of Nigerian citizens to subscribe to the Nigerian Army, adding that recruitment into the Army is in compliance with stipulated federal character requirements.

In his response, Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tammy Danagogo, said he was appalled at the revelation that Rivers State has not been subscribing to its allocated quota into the Nigerian Army in accordance with the requirements of federal character. 

He said the action of the COAS in directing the engagement with the Rivers State Government showed the love COAS has for Rivers State and its indigenes.
