A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, yesterday, nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary for Kaduna Central Senatorial District and ordered a re-run within 14 days.
Daily Trust reports that Lawal Adamu, popularly known as Mr LA, and a close ally of the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was declared winner of the primary election and his name subsequently published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the PDP Kaduna Central senatorial candidate.

Adamu’s victory was, however, challenged by Usman Ibrahim, who came second in the primary election. He approached the court alleging over-voting in the party’s primary election.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, while delivering judgement, said claims by the plaintiff were substantial.
He said, therefore the primary election was nullified and the PDP should conduct fresh primary within the next 14 days.
Lead counsel to the plaintiff, Sam Atung SAN, said, “Today is a good day for the rule of law, constitutionalism and internal democracy within our political parties.”
