A resident of the area, Comrade Victor Arogunyo, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, said the corpses had been evacuated to the Ibilo General Hospital.

According to him, “The corpses seem to be fresh because blood was coming out of the mouths of about two or three of them but there were no signs of gunshots because the police who came tried to check signs of gunshots which they couldn’t find.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.

“In a close examination, cellophane was discovered in the mouth of one of the corpses. There is no other mark of violence in any of the bodies but that cellophane suggests that it could have been through suffocation that accelerated their deaths.”

He said the bodies were deposited at the hospital for autopsy examination while an investigation to determine the cause of death and the culprits responsible had commenced.

“For now, it is a case of suspected murder,” he said.
