Former UI Deputy VC, MAPOLY students, kidnapped on Lagos-Ibadan expressway 

Gunmen have reportedly abducted a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, at the University of Ibadan (UI), Adigun Agbaje, as well as two students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway. 
The kidnapped students include Miss Orekoya Oluwatobi and another whose identity was yet to be ascertained. They were abducted on Friday near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden at the Ibadan end of the highway.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen also killed a police officer, attached to the Oyo police command and injured others who engaged them in a gun duel.
It was also gathered that the abductors had contacted the families of the victims and demanded N10 million for each of the two students of the polytechnic.
In a viral audio said to be a phone conversation between a mother and her abducted daughter, Orekoya; the victim while in tears appealed to her mother to get the requested ransom urgently to prevent “her sudden death.”
The President of the Student Union of the polytechnic, Damilola Ajani, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The gunmen called to collect a ransom of N10million. In view of this, we seek public financial assistance and prayer.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was not aware of the incident. However, his Oyo counterpart, Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident in a statement.
Osifeso added that, in an attempt to engage the gunmen, “an officer attached to the command paid the supreme price with one other badly injured and presently responding to treatment.
“So far, expended ammunition shells and four abandoned vehicles were retrieved at the scene.
“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, has ordered full-scale scientific and technological aided investigations to unravel the events that led to the incident with the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department leading the charge.”
