NDDC to begin remedial work on East-West road

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana, has directed the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to commence immediate remedial works on the flood-ravaged section of the East-West Road.

The stretch of the East-West road leading from Ahoada, Mbiama to Bayelsa was cut off as a result of the ravaging flood.

The collapsed sections of the road have made vehicular movement very difficult thereby denying road users access to Ahoada and other parts of Rivers and Bayelsa states.

The minister, who gave the directive when he undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the flood-ravaged section of the East-West road at Ihuike, near Ahoada on Thursday also directed that relief materials should be given to victims of flood in the area.

Umana, who was accompanied by the acting Managing Director of NDDC, Engr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, and directors of the commission, said President Muhammadu Buhari at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday directed that immediate action should be taken to bring relief to communities affected by the rampaging flood.

Earlier, the acting Managing Director of NDDC said the commission shall within the coming days engage and mobilise a company to the failed section of the East-West Road.
