While some of the victims have been killed, residents said they had been forced to pay ransoms running into millions of naira to secure abductees.

The CP said the visit was to assess the security situation and adopt strategies to rebuild the confidence of the residents and stop the incursions of criminal elements into the fast developing communities.

He said, “The first step taken was to immediately deploy three patrol teams composed of conventional and men of the tactical teams of the command.

“This effort has drastically reduced the fear and apprehensions in the minds of the residents.”

The CP, who assured the residents of their safety, advised them not to panic or relocate from the area.

The community head of Gaa Osibi, Alfa Ola Shehu, thanked the CP for the visit and deployment of the patrol teams.

He said members of the communities were ready to support the police with necessary materials that would enhance their duty in the community.

Representatives of the communities later joined the CP’s convoy to patrol the areas while showing him the places they believe the criminals use in accessing the communities.
