4 arrested for selling stolen vehicles as spare parts

Operatives of the Ijora Badia Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested four suspects who specialize in stealing vehicles and dismantling them for onward sale as spare parts.

The suspects, in their confessional statement, alleged that most of their buyers are spare parts dealers at the popular Ladipo spare part market, in the Mushin area of the state.

“We dismantle most of the vehicles snatched from their owners at gunpoint. We call it ‘ngbuka’. We sell these vehicle parts to dealers at Ladipo,” Ganiyu, one of the suspects said.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident identified the suspects as, Alafia Afiwajuomo, Ganiyu Tajudeen, Olamilekan Hassan and Lucky Esomojumi.

Hundeyin said the suspects were arrested at Igamu under bridge following a painstaking investigation and intelligence gathering launched when information was received.

“The suspects on September 29, 2022, 29/09/2022, snatched a Toyota Camry at gunpoint from one Sandra (surname withheld) at Iganmu in Surulere, Lagos.

“The car was in the process of being dismantled before it was recovered by the police. Parts of cars suspected to have been dismantled and sold as spare parts were also recovered at the scene” he added.
