Two years after, Lagos reconstitutes Apapa traffic taskforce

In a bid to consolidate the gains of improved traffic flow being witnessed in the Apapa axis, the Lagos State Government has reconstituted and inaugurated the Apapa Special Traffic Management Team to effectively tackle the gridlock in Mile 2/Tincan axis.

This is coming two years after the federal government disbanded its presidential task force while the traffic management of the nation’s port community was handed over to the state government.

Our correspondent reports that while the state government has been managing the traffic situation, there are still pockets of impediments on the access roads, even as allegations of extortion continue.

The government, however, said it has achieved 80 per cent success in traffic management in Apapa, adding that the inauguration of the task force was to consolidate the gains recorded in the area.

The special adviser to the Governor on Transportation, who is also the chairman of the team, Hon. Sola Giwa, explained that the focus of the team is to solely eliminate gridlock on the Mile 2/Tincan axis to sustain the 80% success recorded on Apapa traffic reduction, in line with the governor’s promise to resolve traffic challenges in Apapa and its environs.

The special adviser also revealed that the team will work in line with its modus operandi to address the gridlock challenge on the aforementioned corridor through strategic planning and operations.
