Police arrest guard for duping neighbour N30m

The Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday arrested a security officer, Adeboye Lawal, at the Kolapo Ishola Estate, Akobo, Ibadan, for duping one Abiodun Joseph the sum of N30 million.

City & Crime learnt that Lawal approached the complainant, a neighbour in the estate, to market a plot of land situated inside the estate, informing him that he had the instructions of the land’s owner based in Germany to dispose of the property.

Parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, William Adebowale, said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Adejuwon Ademola, a security officer at Kolapo Ishola Estate, Akobo, Ibadan, approached the complainant to market a plot of land situated inside the Estate, informing him that he has the instructions of the land owner based in Germany to dispose the property.”

According to the commissioner, the plot, however took an interesting twist when in a bid to substantiate their claims, one Kole Bello, a lawyer to the land’s owner and acclaimed administrator of the property, presented land documents bearing the name of one Adeboye Lawal, hence the sum of N30,000,000 was paid for the property through a new generation bank account presented by the lawyer.

The commissioner noted that out of curiosity as a result of so many discrepancies noticed, the buyer proceeded to the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Agodi, to affirm the legitimacy of the purchase, only to discover that the land documents were fake.

He gave the names of other suspects as Kole Bello, Musa Aremu, Adejuwon Ademola, Esuola Ayinla, Moshood Babatunde, Akeem Ojo and Afolabi Oloyede.

He said the suspects had since confessed to the crime and were helping demystify other related cases.
