Bompai market: Court orders police to investigate 2 Kano agencies’ MDs

A Kano State magistrates court has ordered the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state to investigate the Managing Directors (MDs) of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) and the Kano State Investment and Property (KSIP), Alhaji Abdulwahab Suleiman and Dr Jibrilla Muhammad respectively for theft, criminal trespass and mischief filed against them by 188 shop owners at the Bompai New Market.

Sequel to a written complaint made pursuant to various sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano State by the plaintiffs, the Magistrate, Halima Aliyu Nasir, issued the order.

Counsel to the complainants, Abba Hikima, prayed the court to take cognizance of the offences committed by the two defendants, who he said conspired to perpetrate the illegalities by mischievously demolishing thousands of his clients’ shops and taking away remnants of the materials used in their construction.

He said an investigation carried out revealed that materials like doors and rods removed from the shops had been sold to a Kano-based company, Koguna and Sons Nigeria Ltd.

In an earlier suit, a Kano State high court presided over by Justice Sunusi Ma’aji, on October 12, 2022, restrained KNUPDA and KSIP from demolishing the shops of the complaints, an order which the state government resisted and failed to obey.
