The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) at the weekend advised the federal government to make climate change a policy and fiscal agenda.

The Director-General of NACCIMA, Mr Sola Obadimu, said, “It is not enough to raise the alarm by NiMet and other agencies, it’s important to put measures in place to see that Nigerians, especially farmers, do not fall victim to floods, pestilence and other acts of nature.

“The federal government must guarantee protection for farmers against killer herders and other terror groups who have posed a threat to our food security, else the food crisis will continue to ravage us.”

Represented by the Head, IT & Policy Development for NACCIMA, Mr Olufemi Alatise, Obadimu spoke during a press briefing organised by NACCIMA Women Group, known as NAWORG, which is collaborating with the Lagos State government to help women agropreneurs showcase, network and exhibit their offerings to the world during its coming international exhibition in Lagos.

The exhibition, themed ‘Encouraging Women in Agriculture and Made in Nigeria Products for Economic Growth’, will be held 21st to 23rd October in Lagos.

The NACCIMA DG welcomed the exhibition, saying it would be given full support in logistics and technical support, among others.

The NAWORG coordinator, Lagos State chapter and chairperson for Trade & Exhibition, Mrs Stella Akande, who represented the national chairperson of NAWORG, Hajiya Abubakari, said the exhibition would be a great opportunity for women in the agriculture sub sector in particular as there would be access to markets, distribution and others in the entire value chain, among other benefits.
