Club owners task Gusau on restructuring NPFL

The Nigeria Football Federation President, Engr Ibrahim Gusau has been tasked by the owners of club in the Nigeria Football Professional League (NPFL) to restructure the league.

They made this known during a meeting with the new NFF board as they seek a better-packaged and more fruitful NPFL.

According to a statement from the NFF, the club owners identified 10 serious problems that have bedevilled the league in recent years.

SPONSOR AD

They are lack of sponsorship, no TV Broadcast, poor officiating, insufficient funding and lack of match integrity.

Others are poor remuneration of match officials and huge indebtedness in this area, matches won on the basis of highest bidder, poor infrastructure, incompetent administrators and absence of prize money for winners and/or failure to honour same, et cetera

The Club Owners further charged the NFF president and his board to critically look into the aforementioned areas of concern and restructure the Nigeria Professional Football League in line with international best practices.

They called on the NFF president to set up a small committee of football experts to look into the former League Management Committee (LMC) and the current Interim Management Committee (IMC) and come up with a functional governance structure to drive the NPFL for the good and development of football in Nigeria and for the benefit of all major football stakeholders.
