Fourteen travellers Sunday died in a ghastly motor accident along Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The accident happened around 6am at a location close to Olam farms under Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, about 27 kilometres from Kaduna town.
The crash involved a commercial bus and a truck conveying bags of rice.
Confirming the incident, the Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), G. Lawal, described the accident as terrible.
He said seven other passengers that sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while four others escaped unhurt.
“I just returned from the scene of the accident. The commercial vehicle was coming from Port Harcourt, while the trailer was loaded with bags of rice when the accident happened.”
He cautioned drivers to avoid night driving and over-speeding for their safety and other road users.
In a related development, 11 people were killed and nine others injured on Saturday on the Bauch-Gombe road at Hawan Jaki village, Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State, when a Dangote truck collided with an 18-seater Yankari Express bus.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi, Yusuf Abdullahi, told newsmen that, “Nine of the victims were confirmed dead on arrival at the Alkaleri General Hospital, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.”
The commander, therefore, appealed to motorists and other road users to observe traffic regulations and desist from over-speeding, especially during the Ember months when vehicular movement is high.
