The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the conviction of a woman, Ogierakhi Joyce Amenze, for engaging in human trafficking in Edo State.
Ogierakhi was sentenced to one year in a correctional centre by the National Industrial Court in Edo State for trafficking girls out of the country for prostitution.

She was arraigned on December 1, 2021, at the National Industrial Court, Benin, on a two-count charge bothering on procurement for prostitution contrary to Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
She pleaded not guilty and was remanded at a correctional centre. But at the resumed hearing, she changed her plea and pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The Judge, Justice A. A. Adewemimo, after convicting her, sentenced her to 12 months imprisonment with an option of a N1m fine.
