2023: Nasarawa police caution parties on electoral violence

Ahead of 2023 general elections, the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa state have cautioned various political parties and their loyalists to avoid all forms of electoral violence as they go about their campaigns.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adesina Soyemi, handed the warning at a meeting with state chairmen, secretaries of various political parties across the 13 local government areas of the state and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Lafia on Sunday.

The police boss stated that the meeting became imperative following the directive given by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Alkali Baba, to ensure the successful conduct of the 2023 general election.

Earlier, the Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Uthman Ajidagba, expressed the commitment of INEC to deliver credible elections in 2023.

Ajidagba, who was represented by the State Administrative Secretary of INEC, Mr Usman Wase, said the commission would provide a level playing field for all political parties, appealing for their maximum cooperation towards ensuring a hitch-free electoral process in the state.

In their separate contributions, the State Chairman of Labour Party, Mr Alexander Emmanuel; the State Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Hassan Abubakar; the State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Adamu Bako, among others appreciated the police for the initiative and reiterated their commitment to obey the laws guiding the 2023 elections.
