National Gallery to hold 4th stakeholders meeting on visual arts

Nigeria is set to hold a 4th stakeholders’ forum on visual arts by the National Gallery of Art (NGA) as part of measures to shift global attention to Nigeria and harness the gains therein.

The Director, Planning and Research NGA, Dr Evelyn Otaigbe, said in a statement that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his FCT counterpart, Mohammed Musa Bello are expected to host participants at the meeting.

The theme of the stakeholders meeting which is scheduled to hold on October 25, 2022 in Abuja, is ‘Transforming Nigeria through Contemporary Visual Art: Public and Private Funding and Interventions and Synergies’.

The event, according to Dr Otaigbe, will attract distinguished and renowned artists of Africa descent, art connoisseurs, art enthusiasts, public policy experts and captains of industry.

She said that the director of the NGA, Ibeten Ivara, will co-host the event while Senator Rochas Okorocha, Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, will serve as the Chairman.

“World interest in Nigeria’s arts predates colonialism but has remained sustained over the years with increased productivity in the sector, the discovery of new talents, enhanced quality of works and the vast potentials in the industry.

“This year’s forum is the 4th in the series, bringing together distinguished and world renown artists of African descent, art connoisseurs, art enthusiasts, public policy experts and captains of industry,” she said.

She also said that the special guest speaker is the DG, National Museums and Monument, Prof. Abba Isa Tijani, while discussants include the President of the Society of Nigerian Artists President, Mohammed Sulaiman, with Chairman, Arbarka Tv/ Radio and former DG, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Ladan Salihu as panel anchor while the chief distinguished panellist is ED, Nigerian Film Video Censors Board, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas.
