The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, on Thursday explained that Nigeria cannot successfully fight breast cancer because it lacks registries to collect data on cancer victims.
Speaking at the 25th Anniversary and 4th International Breast Cancer Symposium of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria tagged: “Closing the Data Gap for Precision Cancer Control in Nigeria”, Akeredolu stressed the need to improve the data systems to leverage artificial intelligence.
The wife of the Ondo governor said true representation of cancer reality did not exist in Nigeria.
Mrs Akeredolu, however, said she was ready to help government produce efficient and effective cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment systems for improved service delivery.
She also underscored the need for a more innovative approach to reduce the cancer burden and drive more effective cancer control programming in Nigeria with its prevailing high rates of cancer incidence and mortality in the country.
