AMAC sacks revenue collection partners, consultants

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has terminated the services of technical partners and consultants responsible for collection of revenue in the council.

Maikalangu, who announced their sack on Friday, said their activities were shrouded with illegalities, with no remittances of agreed percentage of revenue generated to the council’s account.

While identifying competency and accountability as the hallmark of his administration, he assured that legality would not be compromised in consultancy services and technical partnerships with his administration

He further said that his administration had fashioned a new way of revenue generation legally to increase and revamp the council’s revenue base.

He explained that, “We have to come together to have a synergy as partners in progress to move AMAC forward. This is a new administration to build a better AMAC that can be able to pay salaries.

“We cannot continue to do things in the same way as the former administrations and expect different results. On this note, today, October 7, 2022, all partners generating revenue on behalf of AMAC are hereby dissolved. I, therefore, thank you for the job you did for the council.”

The chairman, however, said his administration might reconsider or re-engage technical partners who performed excellently in the past years.

Maikalangu added that, “That was why we asked you to come with your statements of accounts, because tomorrow if the EFCC or ICPC come to the council it may be difficult for me to defend what I do not know.”

He further said, “We have provided a new AMAC account for revenue generation; it is 65 per cent for AMAC and 35 per cent for the technical partners. All the monies meant for the council should be paid into the new council’s account.”
