The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has said continuous closure of primary and secondary schools in some parts of Niger State due to insecurity was impacting negatively on the lives of pupils in the area.
The affected local governments are Rafi, Shiroro, Mariga, Mashegu, Munya, Paikoro and Rijau.
Speaking at the 2022 World Teachers Day in Minna, the state capital, yesterday, the NUT Chairman in Niger State, Akayago Adamu Mohammed, urged the state government to provide viable and safe alternatives to ensuring the resumption of academic activities in the affected communities.

He lamented that lack of adequate classrooms, delayed salary, backlog of salaries, allowances and series of deductions had demoralised many teachers in the state, adding that quick measures needed to be taken to motivate them.
He called on the state government to recruit more teachers with requisite qualifications to replace those that had either resigned or retired.
The Commissioner for Education, Hannatu Jibril Salihu, said government was working to improve the working conditions of teachers in the state.
At the event, some teachers were awarded with generators, gas cookers and television sets for their outstanding performances in their respective schools.
