The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, said Nigeria has recorded over 200 per cent increase in digital data generation in the last three years.
He stated this on Tuesday at a validation workshop on a proposed Data Protection Bill, jointly organised by Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) and Nigeria Digital Identification for Development Project in Abuja.

It was first passed by the National Assembly in 2019 but was declined presidential assent due to some gaps.
“In Nigeria, in the last three years, we discovered that the quantity of data being generated increased by 202%. The increase is even higher than the data we used to generate. This is not limited to Nigeria, it is a trend globally,” said Pantami.
The National Commissioner/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB), Dr Vincent Olatunji, said the proposed bill, after validation, would be uploaded on the website of the communications ministry for public assessment.
He appealed to the public to make inputs on the bill before it is presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval.
