Reno Omokri, an aide to a former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has warned Nigerians not to be carried away by the “empty” promises of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Omokri stated this while speaking from London on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

LP spokesperson, Tanko Yunusa, had claimed that the issue of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike would be a thing of the past if the party’s candidate wins the presidential election in 2023.
But Omokri said Obi’s antecedents were contrary to his promises to Nigerians.
He said: “Peter Obi was governor of Anambra State. While he was governor, doctors were on strike for 13 months. While he was governor of that state, schools were closed down for seven months.
“These people that come out on air and said that Peter Obi will make Nigeria into paradise when he was governor of Anambra state, did he turn Anambra into a paradise?
“If you look at the four presidential candidates, by what parameter can you say Peter Obi is the best? There is none.
“If you compare their experiences in government, even [Rabiu] Kwankwaso had a better record in the office.
“He talked about corruption, which is one of their strongest point, the only person among the four major presidential candidates mentioned in the Pandora Paper scandal is Peter Obi. He was mentioned as corruptly enriching himself…”
In 2011, ASUU in state universities across the southeastern states, including Anambra went on strike for months over inadequate infrastructure in the institutions, poor funding, among other issues. Obi was the governor of Anambra State at the time.
Omokri also accused Obi of telling lies about his plan to make Nigeria a producing country, claiming that the LP presidential candidate is currently the single largest importer in the country.
Tanko, however, said Peter Obi had come out to clear his name on issues of corruption, challenging other candidates to clear theirs.
Omokri also mocked the #ObiDatti rallies in some Nigerian cities, saying supporters were “singing to the choir.”
He claimed that only the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party were those canvassing for votes among the top four contenders.
