Gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday afternoon attacked and reportedly killed five soldiers and one unidentified civilian in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
An eyewitness said the incident happened opposite Zenith Bank in Umunze between 1pm and 2pm.

It was gathered that the soldiers were in a Toyota Sienna vehicle on surveillance when the hoodlums attacked them.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, could not say if soldiers were killed but confirmed that there was shooting in Orumba.
“I cannot confirm if soldiers were killed, but can only confirm shooting along Umunze Road opposite Zenith Bank,” he said.
Ikenga said the command had deployed its men in the area to maintain peace and order.
There have been several killing incidents in the South East linked to IPOB, although the group has always denied hands in them.
