The people of Pyem chiefdom of Mangu LGA of Plateau State have decried the non-compliance by the state government with the Supreme Court order on the installation of Architect Hudu Ibrahim Manomi as the head of Gindiri district.

The residents, at a press conference led by Auwal Haruna Ma’aji, Sunday in Jos, said they were surprised that after the court order, the state government has refused to install the elected chief of the community.

He said: “Now with the substantive judgment/orders of the Supreme Court of February 1, 2019, it becomes more worrisome and dismaying that the Plateau State Government continues in defiance not to complete its statutory duty/functions of approving/installing the duly elected Sum-Pyem Hudu Ibrahim Manomi,” he said.

According to them, rather than the government abiding by the court order, it choose to recognise Mr. Charles Mato Dakat who was, “purportedly produced brazenly in an act of abuse of office and/of substantial miscarriage of Justice.”

They said Mamoni, having been duly elected as the Sum-Pyem on 17th May, 2004, has acquired all accrued and vested rights as affirmed by the Supreme Court, and prayed the government to follow the process of the rule of law as basis of civilization and democracy.

The people further appealed to the good sense of wisdom of Governor Lalong, to be ethical and stand by the oath of office he has sworn to.

When contacted on the development, Sylvanus Tapgun, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, did not respond to calls by our orrespondent.

It could be recalled that Manomi had on September 9, sought an interim order of the Plateau State High Court, to grant him judgement security in the sum of N2.3bn, against the state government, Mangu LGC, Attorney General of the state and Charles Mato Dakat.

Architect Manomi sought the order by motion ex-parte filed on August 30, 2022, in the matter of contravention of Section 287, and enforcement of the judgement of the Supreme Court pursuant to Section 287 (1), (2) and (3), of the Nigerian Constitution, respectively.
