Open letter to President Buhari

It is with the highest degree of respect that I wish to draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the plight of agents of NIN registration working under NIMC licensed operators nationwide, over non-payment of enrolment fees for the last eight months by NIMC.

Your Excellency, we thank and commend your administration for the opportunity given to us through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy under the leadership of Prof Isah Ali Pantami for participation in the NIN ecosystem enrolments project in line with world best practices for generating NIN numbers of Nigerians wherever they reside for national interest. Sir, our involvement has added greater value to the NIMC database because of the rapid promotion of enrolment figures experienced within the last 18 months of its inception. Similarly, it is worthy to note that the DG of NIMC during the 4th National Identity Day Celebration held on  September 16, 2022, gave an estimated NIN-Sim linkage to about 89million, part of which private licensed operators contributed immensely to the attainment of the said figure.

Resident evil

Sir, we the agents of licensed operators are mostly unemployed graduates, with computer literacy, ICT experts and other professionals in information technology sectors got trained by the ICT department of NIMC and acquired enrolment equipment through bank loans, relations, friends, etc. with the hope of getting legitimate means of livelihood and returning initial capital investment after deduction of the logistic and overhead cost of supporting staff and other expenditure within a specified period.

Sir, from January to August this year, 2022, the licensee has received invoices for the work done, but up till today, they have not gotten the release of payment from NIMC due to the non-release of funds by the  of Finance.

It is in the light of the above that I humbly request the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari, to come to our rescue by directing the Federal Ministry of Finance to as a matter of urgency, settle us (agents) immediately, as we are now finding it difficult or almost impossible to continue with the exercise due to backlog of financial burden. This, if not paid, will create a negative impression about the seeming success of the recorded project.

We look forward to Your Excellency’s quick intervention.
