Food safety, technical barriers and non-adherence to best practices are key causes of the rejection of exported commodities from Nigeria.
This was contained in the report of the technical committee on the rejection of Nigerian Agro Export in the international market, particularly the European market,
Submitted to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adebayo, recently.
While presenting the report in Abuja, the Director, Commodity and Export in the Trade Ministry and Chairman of the Committee, Suleman Audu, said the “Committee noted major concerns such as food safety, technical barrier, non-adherence to best practices and disregard to basic requirements, as largely responsible for the rejection of our agro-exports abroad.
In his response, the Minister assured the Committee that all the recommendations of the report will be implemented accordingly in collaboration with the private sector.
