The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, has directed an investigation into the allegations of failure to prosecute Hajia Uwani Hussaini Usman, the suspect in the murder of a businessman, Alhaji Hussainu Usman, despite court orders.
In a letter dated 7th September, 2022 and addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department and signed by the Principal Staff Officer II to the IGP, Idris Abdullahi Abubakar, the IGP directed him to “look into this and furnish comment.”
An FCT High Court presided by Justice Angela Otaluka on June 14 ordered the police to produce Uwani, who was charged alongside her son, Huzaifa Hussaini Usman, over the alleged strangulation to death of Usman during his early morning prayer at his No B2A Latinwo Street, Adisa Estate, Durumi, Abuja residence on October 28, 2018
The IGP’s directive was in response to a petition by the son of the deceased businessman, Aliyu Hussaini Usman, dated 5th September 2022, where he traced the history of the case from the Durumi Police Station, Abuja, where the defendants were indicted to the filing of criminal charges at the FCT High Court presided by Justice Samira.
