The YouthHubAfrica, a member of the #VoteNotFight coalition, said it recently joined members of the coalition at the public hearing on the establishment of the National Electoral Offences Commission and Related Matters 2022 Act.
The bill, currently before the House of Representatives, will be responsible for investigating and prosecuting electoral offences, the organisation said in a statement.
In addition to encouraging young people to participate actively in the electoral process, the bill aims to promote trust, integrity, and accountability in electoral processes.
Amongst key propositions made by the #VoteNotFight coalition was the need for institutions and employers to allow citizens and employees to register and actively participate in voting processes.
It is also necessary to include civil society and youth representatives from the Nigerian Youth Parliament across the six geopolitical zones to constitute the key strategy team of the commission.
