A Minna magistrates’ court in Niger State has sentenced two ex-convicts, Haruna Aliyu (20) and Mohammed Habib (20), and three others to five years imprisonment each for criminal conspiracy and extortion.
The prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, ealier told the court that Haruna Aliyu, Mohammed Habib (20), Sadiq Sani (21), Ibrahim Adamu (20) and Sani Adamu (19), conspired, extorted and robbed one Kabiru Ibrahim, a tanker driver from Zamfara State, and one Abbas Abubakar, on David Mark Road in Minna.

He said the accused who were arrested in a tricycle by a team of policemen were found with a knife, a cutlass and mobile phones, and that during investigation they confessed to have conspired and robbed the victims.
The Magistrate, Hauwa Kulu Isah, maintained that from the disposition of the accused persons, who one after the other narrated before the court the role played by each of them in connection with the crime, did not deserve leniency, especially on the strength of the fact that the first and third accused persons, Haruna Aliyu and Mohammed Habib, were ex-convicts.
She, therefore, sentenced them to five years imprisonment each.
