A 32-year-old ex-convict, Emmanuel Sunday, has confessed going back to crime because of hunger and homelessness.

The suspect, who was recently released from the Kirikiri Custodial Centre, Lagos, where he served a three-month jail term, admitted that he was formerly arrested by the police for a similar offence.

He said, “I went back to crime because of hunger. I had no money and nowhere to go to when I came out of jail few weeks ago.

“I regret committing the same offence. It is the devil’s handiwork.”

The Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was arrested for robbery in Ketu area of Lagos.

Hundeyin said the suspect was apprehended around 8pm on Tuesday when policemen working undercover spotted him while trying to dispossess a motorist of his mobile phone.
