Vigilantes burst cable theft syndicate in Benin

Men of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Edo State have arrested three suspects who specialise in stealing armoured cables in Benin City.

A VGN official who led the operation, Osasere Ekhator, told journalists that the suspects, Alli Mohammed, Mustapha Mohammed and Gilbert Okonkwo, were arrested on Sapele Road during a stop-and-search.

He said Mohammed was first arrested at about 2am and that after interrogation he led the vigilantes to the two other members of the gang who were also arrested.

He added that further investigation revealed that Okonkwo was a dealer who procured vandalised cables from the members of the gang.

He said during a search of their vehicle they discovered stolen goods in the trunk.

The state Coordinator, VGN, Col Kole Oshoriamhe Omomia (Rtd), assured that his men were intensifying effort to check crime across the state.
