President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akeem Ambali, says the passage of bills on local government autonomy is now a pre-condition for any state to enjoy the union’s support.
Daily Trust on Sunday reports that Houses of Assembly in Kogi, Edo and Ogun states are some of the state parliaments that have approved the LG autonomy bill, in the ongoing consideration of the 44 constitution alteration bills earlier transmitted to the assemblies by the National Assembly.

Ambali, shortly after he met with Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, said Ogun remains the only state that has passed the autonomy bill in the South West region.
“If the governor had not consented, the House of Assembly wouldn’t have passed the Local Government Autonomy Bill,” he submitted.
According to him, “the NULGE had directed that any state that passes local government autonomy should be supported by local government workers, and we mean that.”
