Gunmen raid 3 banks, POS operators in Kogi

Robbers invaded branches of UBA, Zenith and First Bank in Ankpa, Kogi State on Tuesday afternoon and carted away an unspecified sum of money.

The gunmen, numbering about 20, were said to have entered the town around 2pm and first robbed the UBA before proceeding to Zenith Bank and then First Bank.

A witness said the robbers arrived in the town in cars, buses and on motorbikes and robbed the banks and POS operators for almost an hour.

The casualty figure was not clear at the time of filing this report, but a witness said many people may have been hit by stray bullets considering how the robbers shot their way into and out of the town.

A resident told Daily Trust that he saw men of the navy and police, as well as some vigilante members, moving towards the areas after the robbers had left.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kogi State, SP William Aya, had yet to respond to calls and a text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.
