A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former House of Representatives member, Abom Tony Esu, has called on the federal government to carefully select the best team for the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Esu said he believes setting up the NDDC board is the only way the Commission can serve its mandate efficiently.
Speaking with journalist on ongoing reforms started by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Umana, Esu urged the people of Niger Delta to give peace a chance for government to reposition the Commission to work.
He described the appointment of Obong Umana as a plus for the Niger Delta, noting that with Umana’s exposure and several years of experience in the civil service, he will be able to sit well on his job.
“Umana’s appointment as Minister should be celebrated across the state by every Akwa Ibom person. This is one appointment by President Buhari that has transcended all other considerations. Umana is competent and has the capacity to bring change into the Ministry and NDDC.
“The first thing the Minister should do is to set up the NDDC board where interest of different states in the region will be represented.”
Abom Tony Esu averred that Umana as a technocrat will not cut corners in making sure things are done. He wished much time was given to the new minister to execute life-touching projects.
