14.3 million Nigeria abuse drugs – NDLEA

National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that there are 14.3 million Nigerians that are abusing drugs in the country while three million of them are already dependence on drugs.

Head of Intelligence Investigation, Kaduna office, Assistant Commandant Abdulrazaq Umar Muhammad, disclosed this at a seminar organised by Islamic and Prophetic Medicine Practitioners Association of Nigeria (IMPAN) held in Kaduna.

He explained that majority of drugs abusers were youth and womený in the country, particularly in northern Nigeria.

He said there were about 10 per cent of the abusers in Kaduna State alone.

He explained that recently the agency seized about 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup in Kaduna State, describing the state as a transit route for drugs going to other northern states.

ýIn his remarks, the NAFDAC representative at the seminar, Shamsudeen Mani, urged the association to sensitise their members by ensuring they register their companies with relevant authorities.

State Chairman of IMPAN, Tijjani Alsari, said the association was ready to abide by the rules and regulations set aside by all the government agencies in the country.
