ASUU Extends Ongoing Strike as govt fails to shift ground

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its ongoing strike.

Although there is no specific details about the extension period, the union took the action after a National Executive Council.

Daily Trust had reported how ASUU, on February 14, 2022, embarked on the strike to demand the re-negotiation of the 2009 FG-ASUU agreement.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, had earlier said the Federal Government cannot ground activities in order to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

While noting that the government had done its best, he appealed to parents to “beg” ASUU.

Since the industrial dispute, several groups and individuals have waded into the matter but there is no positive result yet.

Amongst the demands of ASUU includes the adoption of UTAS as a replacement for IPPIS as a payment platform; payment of salary arrears for academic staff; payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA); revitalisation funds for the universities; release of White Paper on Visitation Panels that concluded their assignment last year; and non-proliferation of state universities.
