Monarch decries insecurity, begs IGP for police unit in domain

A traditional ruler in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, Chief Sunday Ekele, the Och’ Otukpa, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to establish a police mobile unit in his kingdom.

Ekele said the creation of the unit in his domain would help to forestall rising cases of criminality, such as kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other vices wreaking havoc in the area.

The monarch made the appeal during the visit of the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajiya Hajara Alkali Baba, after she earlier visited the paramount ruler of the Idoma kingdom, the Ochi Idoma, Dr John Elaigwu Odogbo in Otukpo.

He said that since his ascension as the traditional head of Otukpa, he had had the cooperation of the chiefs and elders to bring all the illustrious sons and daughters together to see to the progress and development of their land.

Responding, Hajiya Baba Alkali, who is the national president of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), said she was at the palace of the royal father to intimate him of her empowerment programme for police widows and children in the barracks.

Mrs Alkali thanked the Och’Otukpa and the people for the rousing welcome accorded her as a daughter of the soil, even as she promised to take their request to her husband, who she said had been supportive of the POWA. She, however, demanded that the request be documented to enable her present it for appropriate action.
