Inconsistency in players selection, bane of Super Eagles’ success – Ogude

Former Super Eagles international, Fegor Ogude as decried the lack of consistency in the Super Eagles which has hampered the team’s success on the pitch in recent years.

In a chat, the former Warri Wolves captain said that the introduction of new players into the team did not help in achieving positive results.

“We don’t need to be building new team by inviting new players every time. I am referring to the former coach. Sometimes about four to five plyers are invited, they stay in camp and are not used in games, how will they have the belief to play for the team?

“We need consistency as when players train together for some time, it helps the team develop. Look at Europe now, they maintain a particular team for a long time where players play for 10 years and more but in Nigeria, it is different,” he said.

Fegor who played 16 games for Nigeria between 2011 and 2013 and was part of the Nations Cup winning team said the Super Eagles need a change of orientation as the have the upcoming Nations Cup to prove themselves to Nigerians.

“There are good players and talented. They play in good teams in Europe. They need to work harder and maybe with the right technical crew who can change their orientation It is painful we didn’t qualify for the World Cup because it was an opportunity for them to show themselves to the world. Now, the have AFCON coming, they have to try and give in their best.

Ogude made his debut for the Super Eagles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar and was named in the 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He is currently a free agent after his former Russian club, Yenisey Krasnoyarsk released him in 2019.
