Daura, hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, was agog when a former Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, gave out his daughter’s hand in marriage.
Lawal tied the knot with her Gusau-born lover, Engineer Abdullahi Lawal Abba, in Daura on Friday.
The wedding fatiha which took place at Low Cost Jumu’at mosque in Daura, was performed by the Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Abdulkadir Ibrahim,
It was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, including former Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman Lawal Dambazau (Rtd).
Other were Sen. Yusuf Yusuf from Taraba, Sen. Abdullahi Gumel from Jigawa, Assistant Comptroller- General of Correctional Service, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi.
Also in attendance were former Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, Katsina State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Ya’u Gwajo-gwajo, the Magajin Daura and Alhaji Musa Daura, among many others.
The sum of N100,000 was paid as dowry to the bride after the marriage contract was entered into by the representatives of the couple.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the wedding fatiha, the groom, a London-based Security Engineer, Abba, said it was his sister who arranged the marriage while he was out of the country.
“I was in London when my sister recommended her to me, having been impressed by the good attitude and the moral upbringing of the girl. With only a call, I fell in love with her without even knowing how she looks and I’m very happy with the decision I made,” he said.
In his remarks, the father of the bride, Lawal Daura, thanked Almighty Allah for what he called “ a very impressive gathering” and expressed appreciation to all that gathered.
“And as always, I will pray for a very peaceful coexistence between the couple and show appreciation to all that gathered, friends, relations and of course anyone that have chance to be here.
Daura then prayed for peace and normalcy in the country.
A reception dinner was held for the guests at the Daura Motel.
