Ayu must resign – Bode George insists

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, yesterday, insisted that the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu must resign for peace to reign.

He noted that Ayu promised to vacate his seat if the party produced a presidential candidate from the North.

George challenged him to let his word be his bond.

He also said the South is not interested in the position of the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, saying in the interest of equity, fairness and justice, the national chairman should vacate his seat for a Southerner.

Speaking with Daily Trust against the backdrop of the crisis that is raging in the party, he said, “I have no apology for what I am saying because if the reverse is the case where you have all the positions in the South, will the North be happy?

“So, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. The party chairman came out yesterday (Monday) and said he was given a four-year term and that he was not ready to go.

“Even if he was elected today as chairman and the situation in the country changes, the interest of the party should be higher and be respected than the individual interest. The party is not a private company. It is owned by all members.”

George warned that the PDP must do the right thing if it is interested in winning the 2023 election.
